Manchester United F.C. is a world-famous English football club. It is based at Old Trafford Football Ground, Trafford, Greater Manchester. In the FA Cup Final United faced Newcastle United and won 2-0 with goals from Teddy Sheringham and Paul Scholes. In the final match of that season, the 1999 UEFA Champions League Final they defeated Bayern Munich in what was then considered the greatest comeback ever witnessed. After going down to an early goal from a Mario Basler free kick, United chased the game for 85 minutes. After 90 minutes they forced a corner which was converted home by late substitute Teddy Sheringham. Not giving up, Man Utd went for a second and it came again from a corner, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, another late substitute, poked it into the roof of the net. On May 13 2005, businessman Malcolm Glazer acquired a controlling interest in the club through his investment vehicle Red Football Ltd. in a takeover valuing it at approximately £800 million ($1.47 billion). On May 16, he increased his share to the 75% necessary to delist the club from the Stock Exchange, making it private again, and announced his intention to do so within 20 days. On 7 June he appointed his sons Joel, Avram, and Bryan to the P.L.C. board of Manchester United as a non-executive directors. It was for a while expected that Joel would be installed as the new Chairman, however that never happened. At the same time Sir Roy Gardner resigned his position as Chairman of the P.L.C. board, along with non-executive directors Jim O'Neill and Ian Much. Malcolm Glazer also re-appointed Andy Anson as Commercial Director after voting him off the Board at the previous AGM. He also retained Chief Executive David Gill and Finance Director Nick Humby in their current positions in spite of their pre-takeover descriptions of the Glazer's business plan as being "aggressive and unworkable".。

In July 2006 the club announced a refinancing package. Previously the debt taken on by the Glazers to financing the club was split between the club and the family, but now it will all be in the club. The total amount will be £660 million, on which interest payments will be £62 million a year. This is a 30% reduction in interest charges. As City and United played home matches on alternate Saturdays, many Mancunians would watch United one week and City the next. 在美国的生活异常艰苦，除了要适应生活和学习之外，最大的挑战无非就是找工作了，我认为对大多数同学来说拼死拼活来到美国的目的不是对签证官说得那样毕业以后要建设家乡云云，一般都是要取得在这里的工作经验，甚至留在美国。所以，虽然我有很多想跟大家分享的经验，但我还是把如何在美国找工作的一部分跟大家简单介绍一下，以适应近年来留学美国的朋友增加的趋势。

◆在美国找工作所必需的心态：

1、自信心：这个东西一定要有，从来到美国课堂开始，你就要相信自己，因为你能来到美国，来到一个比较优秀的商学院本身就说明你比别人强。我们中国人差就差在语言上，无论你怎么练，总体来讲中国人的口语也不可能跟美国人，欧洲人，和印度人相比。但也不要气馁，咱么智力上比他们强，在说话上也一定要大胆，美国人可以听懂你的英语，所以你所需要做的就是大胆的讲出你的见解！大家不要小看了“说”，有效的表达自己和与他人交流是你找工作的最重要环节！某种程度上比你的听力，阅读，和写作要重要百倍。从另一方面来讲，口语是你保证高水平GPA的重要组成部分，在美国课堂，参与讨论是必需的，有些课堂甚至全部是说，说的程度直接决定你的分数。中国人往往在这个环节上面吃很大的亏。记住，你就要认为自己是强人，自己比别人强！

2、切勿盲目乐观：本人从3月份开始找工作，一开始就给KPMGBostonoffice的HR发邮件申请。也许是因为出来美国前拿到KPMG的offer太不费吹灰之力了(毫无准备的情况下就拿到了，然后将其拒之，毕竟美国比KPMG吸引力大啊)，所以我感觉四大应该就是最后没有选择的选择。但最后结果让我十分狼狈，人家根本理都不理我，管你在中国拿到几个四大的offer！我那叫一个沮丧阿。

3、赶早不赶晚：找实习和工作的最佳时机是从每年的9月份开始，也就是说大家刚进入学校就要开始准备找了。我去年是8月20日抵达波士顿，其实就应该开始找工作了，但是自己因为不了解，一直拖到次年3月份才开始。顶尖的金融公司例如JPmorgan，UBS，BankofAmerica等等，都是9月份开始。虽然找到那里的实习或者工作几乎是不可能的事情(除非你认识那里的CEO一类的人)，但从那里开始大家就可以感受到如何找工作，发现自己的问题，并且不断更正，在不断失败当中寻找成功。

◆如何起步：

1、俗话说万事开头难，所以从一开始必须抱有必死的决心才可以。每所商学院肯定会有自己的CAREERCENTER，所以他们都会帮助你开始，学校也会举办各种讲座来让你了解在美国找工作的方式和步骤，所以对于如何进入状态，大家不要着急。

2、首先需要的是RESUME！我的简历是当时申请学校的时候的版本，但用来找工作肯定是不行的，所以要修改。CAREERCENTER自然会帮助你，但是对于内容当然要你自己来充实。简历主要分为三部分：一是学历，二是工作以及实习经历，也是最最主要的一部分，三是其他，比如你会的语言，计算机，其他等等。工作经验必须要写得最多，因为这个才是美国人最最看重的。顶级投行以及有名的大公司需要接近完美的分数以及世界上为数不多的好学校出来的精英，所以对我们来说工作经验尤其显得重要。一份简历我大概改了有30遍。记住RESUME只能有一页！

3、其次是COVERLETTER！这个东西就是一份说明，也就是你展示自己的机会。COVERLETTER每个人和每个人的格式都可以不尽相同，但要注意的是一定要有一个收信人(你是写给谁看的)，如果TITLE只写dearsir/madam，那有90%的可能你的COVERLETTER会被直接扔掉。内容方面，必须在紧扣jobdescriptionandrequirements的前提下充分向hr展示你，通过3方面：一是你为什么感兴趣？美国人最注重的就是你的兴趣和背景，所以你不让面试者相信你希望得到工作，你是得不到工作的。二是你为什么认为自己胜任这个工作？三是为什么公司要选择你？COVERLETTER只能有一页纸，所以是和RESUME同等重要的东西。当然，有些公司只要求RESUME，但这并不能代表它不重要。

◆从哪里开始找：

打仗需要资源，搞经济建设需要原材料，同样我们工作需要知道哪里有工作的supply.。

1、学校的careerservicecenter是首选，因为学校与外界有着千丝万缕的联系，那里介绍的公司都是认可你所在学校的公司，这就是为什么我们千方百计要去好学校的原因。在这里我顺便提一下我们申请学校所处地理位置的选择：首先是新英格兰地区，此地区为美国的发源地，几大城市(纽约，费城，波士顿，哈特福德，新泽西，华盛顿哥伦比亚特区等)都位于这里。想象一下为什么中国人那么想去北京和上海上大学吧，同样道理。其次是加州。再次是南北卡，要知道夏洛特目前是美国第二大金融中心，所以机会颇多。如果大家以后想从事固定收入债券(fixedincomesecuritiesorrealestate)，那不妨去佛罗里达和德州。当然还有芝加哥一代也是很好的选择。

2、其他的网站：monster，monstertrack，dootstang，craigslist，yahoo！等。这些网站上是全美国的范围，所以你可以有各种高级查找。

3、还有一个重要途径，就是通过你认识的人内部递简历。美国人找工作有80%都是通过熟人介绍然后面试找到的，是非常非常重要的方式。所以大家如果在美国有关系，那就要动用一切关系帮你，这个也是最最有效果的方式。当然如果没有的话，就要通过前面两个途径了。

◆找工作时候的态度：

1、不要那么多毛病，挑三拣四。记住，中国人在美国只有劣势没有任何优势可言！所以我们需要做的就是申请所有我们可以做的工作，哪怕这个工作招的是本科生，你也要申请。

2、一定要注意followup，所谓followup，就是不要在申请投递resumeandcover之后就完事了，如果有收取resume的人的电话号码，一定要在投递2天左右后打电话去询问。或者要发电子邮件去询问。还是落实到一个点上：美国人需要对这个工作有兴趣，热情，渴望的人，所以你的所有行动必须要贯穿一致的像招聘单位表达。

3、经常向careerservice的人请教意见和改进的方法。这一点很重要，因为他们都是专业的，他们存在的目的就是让你尽快找到工作或者实习，所以他们的态度一般会很好，有求必应。你的resume和coverletter在发出之前，尤其是最开始申请经验不足的时候，一定要求教他们。当然也有例外的，前一段时间有个中国同学去，她以前是澳门大学毕业的，结果被那里的人训斥了一顿，很少见，内容大致是：你们这些中国人，电话也不打，这么晚还找不到实习，我们今年的就业率全都让你们这些中国人搞糟了。很无奈，因为确实到最后中国人绝大部分都还没有找到实习。

这里大家一定要注意的是，找工作的精髓就在于信息的获取！这个是万物真理。推荐大家去纽约波士顿不是让大家去玩的。我目前为止做了一件最SB的事情，就是去年到HarvardUniversity听了一次中国目前法学界泰山北斗在哈佛大学的演讲，名字我就不说了，当时在presentation上留了自己的电子邮件地址，结果我当时还傻，感觉自己是金融他是法律所以把联系地址给丢了……实在是郁闷至极！

◆建议使用的邮箱：

有一些同学在使用163或者hotmail的邮箱，这些都可以，但是不那么好用。建议以后大家使用以下邮箱：

1、学校邮箱。例如我的是xxxxx@brandeis.edu，申请工作的时候最好用这个。

◆为什么中国学生那么难以找到实习？

1、中国学生注重文凭，考这个证书考那个证书，到最后一点工作经验也没有。美国人注重的不是证书，记住！他们注重的是你的经验。

2、在美国第一份工作或者实习是最最困难的，各种原因都有，其中：一是签证问题，因为sponsorship的费用已经涨到5000USD，所以一般公司不会去为你花这个钱，除非你牛的可以。二是单位一看resume上面全是中国，担心申请者的英文水平，但如果有一份美国的工作，那就可信度增强很多了。三是美国人骨子里的歧视吧，虽然他们全部都很nice表面上。我一个在IBM工作的同学说，在那里，美国人管日本人，日本人管。

韩国

人，香港人和台湾人，然后这三者管大陆人。没有办法的，大陆的确还是太落后了。

3、中国学生总体来看不aggressive，不知道networking，往往是一大群中国人整天在一起，英语口语没有什么起色。

还有，在美国找工作和实习的时候必须要有车，不是自行车啊，是汽车！否则你告诉面试者你没有汽车，很多情况下你就会因为交通问题而被排除出局了。第一年结束的时候我们program里面几乎所有人手一台汽车，这个是必需的，没有汽车在美国没有办法生存。所以同时大家必须在国内有驾驶经验，否则来美国就开很容易出事故。除了事故你就保险费交死。

◆补充：

我想说的一点是：在美国(其他国家我不知道)，如果你尽问一些很幼稚的问题，在面试的时候会直接被淘汰出局，在跟别人谈话的时候别人会马上意识到你没有什么深度而导致自己最后没有什么市场。幼稚的问题是比较斯文的说法，美国人的说法就是keepaskingstupidquestions，dumbquestions.这个其实不仅仅局限在美国和面试中，想想一个人在你面前尽问一些自己可以通过自己努力得到答案却来问别人的人，你会怎么想？答案就是：对方是个不努力，没有热情，没有思想的人。

我们中国人都有中国人的精神，同样美国人也有自己的精神，他们的精神就是独立，自我奋斗！所以如果你想出国，想去美国，那我劝大家最好自己本科开始学会自我奋斗，从现在开始，通过自己的研究和分析得出自己的答案，实在研究不出结果再问，不要脑子有个东西就抛出来给别人，我说客气一点是别人没有权利义务回答，说难听一点就是别人会认为你很蠢。希望大家不要把奋斗和刻苦紧紧局限在每天没日没夜的读书上，拼搏是全方位的，成熟一些！

这里是出国留学的板子，所以我只是告诉大家实话，如果有谁错误的认为我是高傲而感到不爽的话，我真的不知道该说什么，我只想把我感受到的东西没有保留的在有限的文字里传递给大家，并不想在这里考虑谁的感受什么的，要出国大家就都“肤浅”一点，不要那么多毛病，说一些尖酸刻薄的话，这样的人只能是没有前途的。这一点尤其对所有亚洲男性来讲尤为重要，原因我省略不说，大家一旦在美国开始打拼就会有感觉。亚洲女性在美国找工作要比亚洲男性有很大的先天优势，如果男性再不注意而去问一些stupidquestions，或者搞一些小聪明，那下场会很惨。

◆最后补充一点：

美国人没有规定时间的工作合同，你可以随时解雇你的公司，但是公司也可以随时解雇你，在解雇日期的提前一个月左右通知你。目前为止我知道有两种情况一个人被公司解雇：

1、公司裁员toimproveitsperformance。

2、员工自己犯错误给公司造成负面影响(这个是最惨的，一旦犯错误被解雇，以后再想找工作恐怕是难上加难了，因为reference的力量是不可忽视的，想想当你的面试者电话询问你的前任雇主或者你自己为什么要另寻他就的时候你怎么说？)。

3.其次是COVERLETTER！这个东西就是一份说明，也就是你展示自己的机会。COVERLETTER每个人和每个人的格式都可以不尽相同，但要注意的是一定要有一个收信人(你是写给谁看的)，如果TITLE只写dearsir/madam，那有90%的可能你的COVERLETTER会被直接扔掉。内容方面，必须在紧扣jobdescriptionandrequirements的前提下充分向hr展示你，通过3方面：一是你为什么感兴趣？美国人最注重的就是你的兴趣和背景，所以你不让面试者相信你希望得到工作，你是得不到工作的。二是你为什么认为自己胜任这个工作？三是为什么公司要选择你？COVERLETTER只能有一页纸，所以是和RESUME同等重要的东西。当然，有些公司只要求RESUME，但这并不能代表它不重要。
