(一)水平型吸收水平型吸收(horizontal resorption)是最常见的吸收方式.牙槽间隔,唇颊侧或舌侧的嵴顶边缘呈水平吸收,而使牙槽嵴高度降低,通常形成骨上袋.。
(二)垂直型吸收垂直型吸收(vertical resorption)也称角形吸收(angular resorption),指牙槽骨发生垂直方向或斜行的吸收,与牙根面之间形成一定角度的骨缺损,牙槽嵴的高度降低不多(除非伴有水平吸收),而牙根周围的骨吸收较多.多形成骨下袋.。
骨下袋根据骨质破坏后剩余的骨壁数目,可分为下列几种:。
一壁骨袋；二壁骨袋；三壁骨袋；四壁骨袋；混合骨袋.。
(三)凹坑状吸收凹坑状吸收(osseous crater)指牙槽间隔的骨嵴顶吸收,其中央与龈谷相应的部分破坏迅速,而颊舌侧骨质仍保留,形成弹坑状或火山口状缺损.。
(四)其他形式的骨变化由于各部分牙槽骨吸收不均匀,使原来整齐而呈薄刃状的骨缘成为参差不齐.。
骨吸收的程度一般按吸收区占牙根长度的比例来描述,通常分为三度：
Ⅰ度:牙槽骨吸收在牙根的颈1/3以内.。
Ⅱ度:牙槽骨吸收超过根长1/3,但在根长2/3以内,或吸收大根长的1/2.。
Ⅲ度:牙槽骨吸收占根长2/3以上.。
