泰国一个宁静的村落里，有一户世代贫苦的普通农民家庭，儿子阿锦（托尼-贾饰演）与年迈的父亲相依为命，他们的生活虽然清苦，但是却简单而开心。当年曾担任泰皇护卫御兵的父亲，闲暇的时候还会传授当年操练御兵的拳术给阿锦，希望他日后武功有成，可以为泰皇蒲美蓬效力。
此外，父子俩还计划将家中饲养的大象呈献给泰皇。在拨水节前夕，父亲兴奋地和村长商量如何将心爱的大象呈献给国皇的事宜。没想到村长却另有图谋，暗中与黑帮人士勾结，以给大象作身体检查的借口，把大象运出，送往澳洲准备在黑市中卖出，牟取暴利。
阿锦眼见心爱的大象被夺，决定冒着生命危险，只身远赴澳洲挑战黑帮头子玫块夫人（金星饰演）。期间，阿锦遇到了泰裔澳洲籍警察马克（彼治达王金莱饰演）及被逼当娼妓的巴娜(邦歌江玛丽饰演)，在他们的协助和鼓励下，阿锦决定要抢回大象。虽然阿锦遇到不少顽强对手，但凭着他无比的勇气及坚强的毅力，阿锦把强大的对手们一一打败，最后，阿锦遇到T.K.（尼芬钟斯饰演），这个传说中一直战无不胜、轻易就可以将对手置于死地的高手，阿锦和他展开了激战，到底阿锦能否成功打败T.K.，将大象送回家呢？

Tony Jaa的上部作品《拳霸》以无特技、无替身使全世界的观众瞠目结舌，泰拳第一次在银幕上风光无限，《拳霸》在世界各地受到极大欢迎，成为了泰国史上票房最高的电影。除了票房很高外，《拳霸》还获得了2004年法国杜维尔电影节亚洲影展最佳动作片奖，凭借电影《拳霸》，Tony Jaa从默默无闻一跃成为国际武打明星。《冬阴功》是《拳霸》原班人马拍摄的影片，Tony Jaa为此片练了许多新的打斗招式，体现了他挑战极限、不断求新求变的精神。影片大部份场景在澳大利亚，摄影写实性很强，整部影片的气势比起前作《拳霸》有增无减。

·本片片名“Tom yum goong”其实出自菜名，这道放虾的酸辣汤在泰国很受欢迎。
·泰国前总理他信曾出席本片在泰国曼谷的首映式。
·影片经历两年时间才拍摄完成，使用了600多卷电影胶片。
·片中出现了一段影史上最长的未删剪打斗镜头，时长超过4分钟。
·在影片开拍前，国际发行权就已经被买断，这在泰国影坛史无前例。
·悉尼港口大桥第一次有大象走过。
·在片中的泼水节画面里，出现了托尼·贾的父亲；成龙的一个替身出现在机场的镜头中；泰国歌王Sek Loso也出现在一个镜头的前景中，当时他正在饮用自己品牌的能量饮料。
·为拍摄本片，托尼·贾开创了一种全新风格的泰拳，这种拳法是从大象的动作中获得灵感。

简易天线架设方法：
我的经验是用一根两米左右的电线（如电话线），把两头的塑料外皮去除，露出金属的部分，然后一头连在收音机的拉杆天线上（通过鳄鱼夹或金属制窗帘夹夹在收音机的天线上），另一头垂直向上拉即可，固定住即可，实践证明，能大大提高短波的收听效果。
