Treasure Island is an enjoyable book. It is Robert Louis Stevenson's classic adventure novel, first published in 1883, which is full of swashbuckling action. It's the original pirate story, featuring drunken mutineers, a secret map, and buried treasure.。
I don't know anything about sailing or a lot of the sailing terms that were used in the book, but it really doesn't matter. What matters is the descriptions of the characters, the trip, the adventure, the treasure. There was enough backstabbing, adventure, piracy and the like to entertain all, no matter their age.。
Stevenson without a doubt is a great writer. I cannot only but praise the development of his arguments, the memorable lines, and the richness of his imagination. The few parts I recall I got to immerse were in that classic scene of Jim (the daredevil teen whom is the main character in the hunt of the pirates' treasure) inside the apple barrel, when he is not sure if he was about to doze or if he actually did, those ambiguities I think give life to characters; other scene is when Jim sees a replacement of him to help his mother; or when a blind pirate curses the money his accomplices found.。
This is a great book that for moments gets to be a new and exciting world of pirates, betrayal and loyalty, treasures and mysterious seas; all of it with the presence of one-legged man and his parrot.。
